216-meter communist-era television tower (1985-1992) covered in David Černý's crawling baby sculptures. Love it or hate it — the tower dominates Prague's skyline and offers the highest observation deck in the city. Surreal, brutalist, unmissable.

Don't Miss

Take the elevator to the observation deck (93m) for unobstructed 360-degree views — the height advantage over Petřín Tower is significant. The one-room hotel and restaurant on the tower are gimmicky but functional. David Černý's giant crawling babies clinging to the tower pillars are visible from across Prague.

Best Time

Clear days for views extending to the countryside. Sunset or night visits for illuminated Prague below. The observation deck is open year-round.

Know Before You Go

Completed in 1992 after a decade of construction, designed to jam Western radio signals during the Cold War. Widely despised as an eyesore when built — it destroyed part of a historic Jewish cemetery. David Černý added the crawling baby sculptures in 2000, which somehow made the tower more acceptable. At 216m, it is the tallest structure in Prague and visible from everywhere. The observation deck offers genuinely the best views in Prague — you can see the entire city layout, the castle, the river, and the hills beyond. There is a one-room hotel at 70m if you want to sleep in the tower. Admission is steep but the views justify it.
