The Grand Staircase in Scott's west wing, familiar from Batman Begins and the Spice Girls' Wannabe. In the public rooms, the polished limestone pillars of the former Dining Room with capitals carved as conkers, pea pods and bursting pomegranates, and the painted ceiling of the Ladies' Smoking Room — the first public room in Europe where women could smoke.
Early morning at Booking Office 1869, in the original ticket hall, is the quiet window. The Gothic west front faces south, so afternoon light suits it.
