Golden-hour Sitges with the Sant Bartomeu church above the Mediterranean promenade

Church of Sant Bartomeu i Santa Tecla

church·$·Centre/Old Town

The Baroque parish church on its rocky headland above the sea is the defining image of Sitges — the silhouette that appears on every postcard, standing between the town's two central beaches. Construction began in 1665 and it was blessed in 1672, replacing earlier Gothic churches, two of whose 14th-century sepulchres survive inside alongside Baroque altarpieces and a rich 1699 organ. The watchtower was added in 1868.

Don't Miss

The view of the church from the Passeig de la Ribera at sunrise — the classic Sitges shot. The Baroque interior and 1699 organ reward a look inside; the exterior is free.

Best Time

Sunrise from the promenade for the postcard silhouette, or golden hour when the headland catches the last light over the sea.

Know Before You Go

The town's icon, on the headland between the beaches. Free to view the exterior; the Baroque interior has limited visiting hours. The single most photographed spot in Sitges.
