There is no menu at La Tasquita de Enfrente. There has not been one since Juanjo Lopez opened this sliver of a dining room on Calle de la Ballesta in 1988 and decided that the market, not the customer, would dictate what was served. Each morning Lopez visits the markets and buys what moves him — bluefin, wild mushrooms from Soria, percebes from the Galician coast. By evening these become a succession of courses described verbally to each table, adjusted for allergies with the quiet authority of a man who has done this for over three decades. The room seats perhaps twenty, the counter eight. The intimacy is not designed — it is the consequence of a space too small for anything but honesty.

Insider Intel
There is no menu — Juanjo Lopez cooks what the market delivered that morning. Communicate dietary needs when booking and surrender completely. The fish courses are typically extraordinary. Each visit is unrepeatable by design.
Reserve at least a week ahead — counter seats are fiercely limited and regulars hold them. Lunch and dinner are equally compelling. Mention dietary restrictions when booking; Lopez adjusts on the fly but appreciates the heads-up.
Calle de la Ballesta 6, off Gran Via. Gran Via metro (Lines 1, 5), three-minute walk. Reservations essential — book by phone only. Expect 60-85 euros per person for the full progression. Cards accepted. The no-menu concept is genuine — do not arrive expecting a la carte.
