The room does half the work: a high-ceilinged Victorian corner pub with mismatched chairs, dark wood and a solid ash floor, worn in rather than dressed up, that regularly spills onto Farringdon Road. The blackboard menu changes daily; if the legendary steak sandwich is on it, that is the order. Come at lunch when the kitchen is freshest, and arrive early because there are no bookings.
