Founded in 1870 under the sign 'Alcoholes, Vinos y Licores' and run by the same family for over 150 years, Bodegas Almau is the classic Zaragoza vermouth stop — a preserved wooden shop-front on Calle Estébanes, one of El Tubo's most atmospheric lanes. The house pairing is vermouth on tap with a plate of the finest anchovies (anchoas) and a glass of wine chosen from a deep, traditional list. Little has changed, and that is exactly the appeal.

Vermouth on tap with a plate of anchoas (anchovies) — the signature pairing. Add a glass of wine from the traditional list. Conservas done properly are the whole idea here.

Best Time

The vermouth hour before lunch, when Estébanes is at its most characterful and the aperitivo ritual is in full swing.

Know Before You Go

Over 150 years in the same family, on El Tubo's Calle Estébanes. A vermouth-and-conservas bar in the old style — expect to stand, and expect quality anchovies. One of Zaragoza's most atmospheric drinking stops.
