The Raphael Rooms are essential. The Gallery of Maps is stunning. The Sistine Chapel is the finale — no talking, no photos enforced by guards. Michelangelo's ceiling (1508-1512) and Last Judgment (1536-1541) demand at least 20 minutes. Bring binoculars for ceiling detail.
First entry slot of the morning. Friday evenings in summer (extended hours, fewer tour groups). Avoid Sundays when entry is free but utterly mobbed.
