Falk's Bar

Tucked into the ground floor of the Bayerischer Hof, Falk's Bar is the quiet counterweight to the hotel's headline Roof Terrace — older, darker, and with the particular gravity of a room that survived the 1944 bombings and kept serving. The programme is cocktail-led with an explicit champagne specialisation (the bar carries a cellar the size of a small restaurant's). Low lighting, upholstered booths, a pianist most evenings, and the sort of long-tenure bartenders who build Martinis with a precision that verges on liturgy. This is the room where Munich's older establishment has drunk for generations, and it reads that way — not stuffy, but unmistakably formal in the good sense.

Insider Intel

Order This

A Martini from a bartender who has made a hundred thousand of them. A champagne cocktail from the dedicated list — the bar's headline specialisation. Anything built on one of the older single-malt bottles behind the bar. Avoid trendy modernist cocktails; this is not that programme.

Best Time

Evenings from 7pm when the pianist settles in. Quietest on weekday nights; weekends attract a mixed hotel-guest-and-local crowd. A pre-dinner drink here, then walk to the Residenz or the Opera — the location supports both.

Know Before You Go

Promenadeplatz 2-6, ground floor of the Bayerischer Hof. Entrance through the hotel lobby. Cocktails EUR 16-22. Smart casual minimum; jacket advisable. Reservations possible but walk-ins normal for the bar (as opposed to hotel restaurant). This is a separate room from the Roof Terrace; do not confuse them. Cards accepted. The pianist typically plays 7pm–midnight.
