A 2,200-year-old Egyptian temple rebuilt in Madrid. Egypt gifted it to Spain in 1968 for helping save Abu Simbel from the Aswan Dam flooding. Surreal, authentic, and one of Madrid's most unexpected monuments.

Visit late afternoon for the interior (free entry) then stay for sunset from the park surrounding the temple — the views west over Casa de Campo make this Madrid's best sunset spot. The temple is small (two rooms) but the reliefs and hieroglyphics are genuine. The reflection pool is Instagram central at sunset.
Hour before sunset year-round — the golden light on the sandstone and the views over the city are exceptional. The temple interior closes at varying times (check ahead) but the park is always accessible. Avoid midday when the setting has no atmosphere.
Built in the 2nd century BCE in Aswan, dedicated to Amun and Isis. Dismantled and gifted to Spain in 1968 as thanks for UNESCO assistance. Reconstructed stone by stone in Parque del Oeste. Spain was one of four countries to receive Egyptian temples (others: USA, Italy, Netherlands). Free entry. The location — a hill in western Madrid with sunset views — transforms the monument from curiosity to essential visit. Genuinely magical at dusk.
