William the Conqueror's fortress on the Thames, expanded over 900 years into the layered medieval complex you see today. The Crown Jewels, the White Tower, and Yeoman Warder tours that lean into the grim history — executions, imprisonments, ravens. Unashamedly touristy and genuinely important.

Join a Yeoman Warder tour first — they happen every 30 minutes and provide the narrative structure. The Crown Jewels are impressive (moving walkway past the coronation regalia feels absurd but works). The White Tower houses the Royal Armouries collection. Walk the wall walk for Thames views. Allow 3 hours minimum.
Book the earliest entry slot (09:00 in summer, 10:00 in winter) to beat the cruise groups. Tuesday through Thursday are quieter than weekends. Winter has fewer crowds but shorter daylight. The ravens are always there.
Tickets are expensive and must be booked online in advance. The site is large — 12 acres within the walls. Anne Boleyn, Catherine Howard, and Lady Jane Grey were all executed here. The six ravens are kept at the Tower because legend says the kingdom will fall if they leave — one of Britain's most eccentric traditions. The Crown Jewels include the 530-carat Cullinan I diamond. Tourist trap? Yes. Also genuinely one of the most significant medieval fortresses in Europe.
