A mid-nineteenth-century Islington pub with its own butcher on site, which is the whole proposition: whole animals come in, the menu changes daily according to what is hanging in the fridge, and every part gets used. Opened in 2012, sister to Smokehouse N1, and listed in the Michelin Guide. The cooking is meat- and fish-led Modern British — dry-aged sirloin, Herdwick lamb, Iberico-cross pork, Devon crab — with a proper Sunday roast served until nine. A food stop rather than a room to marvel at, and better for knowing that going in.

Insider Intel
The Pig and Butcher Scotch egg with rapeseed mayo — the one dish carrying the house name. For two, the sixty-day aged côte de boeuf.
Sunday for the roast, served until 9pm. The set lunch, two or three courses, is the value way in on a weekday.
The draw is the butchery, not the building — this is a food venue, and the review that recommended it said so. It placed 92nd in the 2022 Top 100 Gastropubs and is not in the current list, so treat older "Top 50" claims as out of date. Book by email for the dining room.
