Grade II listed, the building early eighteenth century and possibly 1688, a pub since 1772 and refaced in brick in 1958. A CAMRA three-star Real Heritage Pub, their maximum rating, for Victorian-or-earlier internal woodwork including a surviving partition. The upstairs room once hosted bare-knuckle fights, earning it the name The Bucket of Blood; a plaque records the 1679 assault on Dryden outside. Atmospheric rather than food-led.
