The 14th-century Gothic gate towers that once guarded the old city — among the largest such gateways in Europe, their twin polygonal towers framing what was the grand northern entrance to walled Valencia. The walls are long gone, but the gate survives, and you can climb it for views over the Turia gardens and the rooftops of the old town. For visitors, it's both a striking monument and a vantage point: a chance to stand atop genuine medieval fortifications, look out over the former riverbed turned park, and picture the defensive city that once stood behind these imposing stone towers.

The contrast between the two faces — from outside, two impenetrable polygonal Gothic towers; from the city side it is open-backed, revealing stacked chambers with pointed arches and ribbed vaults, so you read the building in section. Then the terrace panorama over the Turia.
