The Ledbury

Brett Graham's three-Michelin-starred restaurant that closed during COVID, reopened in 2023, and was awarded its third star in 2024 — a recognition that confirmed what London already knew. The cooking is technically extraordinary — Graham's flame-grilled Herdwick lamb, his brown crab with hazelnut, and his game dishes (grouse season is an event) represent a level of skill that places The Ledbury alongside the best fine dining in Europe. The room is elegant without the stiffness that London's luxury restaurants sometimes inflict: white tablecloths, natural light from the Ledbury Road windows, and service that manages to be precise and warm simultaneously.

Trailer Happiness

A basement rum bar on Portobello Road that has been serving tiki-adjacent cocktails and Caribbean-leaning drinks since before 'rum bar' was a category London recognized. The room is kitschy, tropical, and deliberately excessive — fake palm trees, bamboo, and the general aesthetic of a 1960s holiday postcard — but the rum list is serious (200+ bottles) and the cocktails are made with genuine skill. The Portobello Road location places it in the heart of Notting Hill, which means market days bring a crowd that spills from the antiques stalls into the basement.

Order: A daiquiri to test the rum programme — if they make a good daiquiri, everything else will follow. The rum collection is vast (200+), so ask for guidance if you like aged sipping rums. The Laslett

A Notting Hill neighbourhood hotel that feels like staying in a particularly well-furnished flat in W11 — the kind of place where the books on the shelves have been read, the art on the walls was chosen by someone with taste, and the coffee in the ground-floor cafe (run by Workshop Coffee) is better than what most hotels attempt. Named after Rhaune Laslett, who founded the Notting Hill Carnival, the hotel occupies five Victorian townhouses and 51 rooms, each decorated with the restrained elegance that Notting Hill considers its birthright. Pembridge Gardens is a quiet crescent off Notting Hill Gate, close enough to Portobello Road to walk but far enough to sleep.
