A Barceloneta market workers' bar that invented the bomba — the potato-and-meat croquette that became Barcelona's most famous tapa — and serves it alongside fried fish, grilled sardines, and whatever else emerged from the kitchen that morning. There is no sign outside, no menu in the window, and no concession to tourism: you walk in, find space at the counter or at one of the cramped tables, and eat what the kitchen is cooking. La Cova Fumada has been operating since the 1940s and the family that runs it treats the space with the casualness of people who have been doing this longer than most of their customers have been alive.
