Quimet y Quimet

A standing-only tapas bar the size of a living room, where four generations of the Quimet family have been assembling montaditos — small open-faced toasts loaded with inventive combinations of tinned seafood, cheese, honey, and whatever else strikes the current Quimet's imagination — from behind a counter surrounded by floor-to-ceiling bottles. There are no tables, no chairs, no kitchen in the conventional sense: just a counter, a family, and the particular alchemy of combining preserved ingredients with a precision that elevates tinned mussels and cream cheese into something you will remember for years. Poble Sec provides the context: a neighbourhood that has resisted the tourist tide better than most.
