The opera café of Barcelona since 1929, facing the Gran Teatre del Liceu across La Rambla — a modernista room of mirrors, dark wood and aproned waiters that has served the pre- and post-performance crowd for nearly a century. Coffee and thick hot chocolate by day, vermouth and cava as the Liceu empties. On a street that lost most of its soul to the crowds, this room kept its own.

A suizo — hot chocolate under whipped cream — in the afternoon, or a vermouth as the opera lets out.
Best Time
Post-performance evenings for the Liceu ritual; weekday mornings for the room almost to yourself.
Know Before You Go
The 1929 café opposite the Liceu opera house. Sit inside among the mirrors rather than on the Rambla terrace — the interior is the point.
