Since 1945, four things only: fried baby anchovies, tomato salad, butifarra, and anchovies in vinegar — with wine or vermouth poured short and cold. La Plata is the Carrer de la Mercè distilled into one tiled corner room, unchanged on principle, where the menu's refusal to grow IS the quality control. One of the last absolutely honest bars of the old port quarter.

Order This
The pescadito frito (fried anchovies) and the tomato salad, with a short glass of house wine. That is half the menu and the whole point.
Best Time
Aperitif hours — before lunch or before dinner; the corner fills fast.
Know Before You Go
A four-dish bar since 1945. Stand at the marble, order the anchovies two ways, and keep it simple — the room does the rest.
