Allow 3-4 hours. The gorilla enclosure is the highlight — the viewing area brings you close to the family groups. The savanna section with giraffes, rhinos, and antelope is impressive. The lemur island is charming. The park is designed to feel like African habitats rather than traditional zoo enclosures.
Weekday morning for fewer crowds. Animals are more active in the morning. Summer afternoons are hot and animals rest. Spring and autumn are ideal. Located at the western end of the Turia gardens.
Opened in 2008 with a focus on immersion and zoo-immersion design (no visible barriers between visitors and animals where possible). The park represents African ecosystems — equatorial forest, Madagascar, savanna, wetlands. Conservation and education-focused. Ticket prices are high but the design and scale justify it if you are visiting with family. The zoo is controversial as all zoos are, but Bioparc is among the better modern examples in Europe.
