Karlín

Post-flood regeneration zone with modern restaurants and startup culture.

Karlín rose after floods into a design-and-food hub that kept its tram lines and river breeze. Negrelli Viaduct arches now house cafés and wine bars; Křižíkova Street runs with bakeries, Vietnamese bistros, and minimalist coffee shops. Old factories turned into offices and lofts, but locals still pack bistros at lunch for goulash and beer.

Church of St. Cyril and Methodius anchors the square; Vítkov Hill trails offer a quick escape with city views. Karlín feels new without erasing the old: industrial bones, fresh plaster, and a rhythm that is calmer than the center but only a short tram ride away.

Evening terraces fill with laptops and strollers; mornings smell like espresso and fresh bread, with the occasional freight train rumble as reminder of its roots.

Eska

Occupying a converted industrial bakery in Karlín, Eska modernized Czech cuisine before it was trendy. The bakery still operates in-house, producing exceptional sourdough that anchors the menu. Open kitchen, concrete and steel design, creative takes on Czech classics without losing their soul. It's energetic, democratically priced, and packed nightly with locals who know they're watching something important happen.

Editor's Pick$$
Order: The roasted bone marrow with house bread to start, then beef tartare or whatever seasonal vegetable preparation they're currently doing. Save room for desserts featuring the bakery's pastry skills.Best: Lunch for a more relaxed pace and better chance of walk-in seating. Dinner is electric but crowded. Weeknight dinners strike the best balance.

Lokál Hamburk

The Karlín outpost of the Lokál empire, Hamburk does what the chain does best—traditional Czech cooking and perfect tank Pilsner at honest prices. The space is larger and slightly more polished than some locations, drawing the post-work Karlín tech crowd alongside families and beer devotees. Reliable, authentic, efficient. The tank beer here arrives unpasteurized from the brewery daily, which is why it tastes nothing like the bottled version.
