Café Celsius

One of Oslo's oldest buildings — a 17th-century timber house by Akershus Fortress — turned into a cozy café where the historic setting is as much the point as the food. The cinnamon bun, the kanelbolle, is mandatory, with a hot chocolate or coffee to warm up; this is comfort eating in the oldest part of the city. Come in the afternoon after exploring the fortress, or in the morning for quiet in the timbered rooms before the crowds. It is small, which only adds to the sense of having found a warm corner of old Oslo to disappear into.
